Michelle Hudson assists with preparing and prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications and assessing the patentability of new technologies. She focuses her practice on chemical, biological, and mechanical innovations.
During her time in undergrad, Michelle worked in the university chemistry lab department, gaining valuable insight into the world of organic and inorganic chemistry. As a teacher’s assistant for the organic chemistry lab, she enjoyed her time helping students with their understanding of the chemistry they observed and their writing skills for lab reports.
After graduating from Grand Valley State University, she started at the Dobrusin Law Firm as an intern in 2021 and was promoted to law clerk after her first year at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Since then, she has gained valuable experience in patent searching and drafting from being at the firm and her experience in law school.
Michelle represented her law school at the USPTO’s National Patent Application Drafting Competition in her second and third year, where her team won Midwest Regionals both years and advanced to compete on the national level. This experience allowed the students to draft a full patent application, present their case as to its novelty above the prior art, and compare the strength of their claims against other students. She also participated in the International Patent Law Clinic where she excelled in patent searching and drafting. She returned as an advanced student for a second semester, allowing her to assist other law students with patent law knowledge and drafting skills.
