The Dobrusin Law Firm Encourages Youth to Explore the IP World Firsthand

Intellectual property law is an exciting STEM career that converges with the law to create exciting job opportunities for students in the sciences. Intellectual property – or IP – relates to unique creations of the mind, such as inventions, designs, artistic works, images, and beyond. At The Dobrusin Law Firm, we take a proactive approach to the exploration of careers in IP by hosting clerks and interns each year in our quest to expose young minds and young professionals to the expansive world of IP.

Internships Are a Two-Way Street: Everyone Wins

While we take immense pride in the opportunities we offer our interns and clerks, they also enrich the firm. They bring a fresh outlook that we all value, and their commitment to learning is always inspiring. Having the opportunity to work with future IP legal professionals makes our own work that much more rewarding.

For their part, our interns and clerks are afforded the chance to get up close and personal with the world of IP, including working in some highly specific scientific arenas. This often sparks a keen interest that can build into a passion, which are the building blocks for highly effective IP professionals.

IP Is a Bit Different

Our goal at The Dobrusin Law Firm is more direct access to the talent pipeline out there – working with younger people when they are filled with wonder and are excited about career exploration that goes beyond the expected. To become a patent attorney, a student needs a background in the hard sciences, which most people don’t equate with the law. By putting the pieces together earlier on, we help build bridges from high school through college to law school – with a focus on IP –  which often takes a more circuitous route.

Saying Adieu to This Year’s Team

Now that many of our interns and clerks have returned to their academic endeavors, we’d like to express our gratitude for all your hard work and dedication throughout the summer.

This year our team included:

  • Nick Busuito, a patent agent and current law student who will continue working with us during the school year.
  • Michelle Hudson, a current law student who will also be staying with us this academic year.
  • Alexandra Calzaretta, a recent law school graduate of Western Michigan University Cooley Law School who will be sitting for the UBE in 2024.
  • Davi Vieira, an intern with us for a year prior to starting law school at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
  • Gracie Symington, an intern who has spent the last two summers with us and has returned to Indiana University.
  • Isabel Wilinski, a junior at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester who demonstrated an early interest in patent law and has interned with us for several summers.

We wish you the best of luck in the new school year – and studying for those bar exams!
