The Dobrusin Law Firm Well Represented at USPTO’s 2023 National Patent Application Drafting Competition

The 2023 National Patent Application Drafting Competition, coordinated by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), introduces students to United States patent law and provides an opportunity to develop application drafting skills.

Teams of four students are paired with a coach who is an active practitioner or professor. Each team completes a search about the Invention Statement, drafts a utility patent application, and presents their drafting and collaboration process before a panel of judges.

The Dobrusin Law Firm made its presence known among the teams competing at the Midwest regionals, including one that will be moving on to the national finals in April:

  • Law clerk Michelle Hudson was part of the University of Detroit Mercy Law School’s team that finished first and will go on to compete in the national finals next month!
  • Attorney Daniela Walters coached a Wayne State University Law School team to a second-place finish.
  • Patent agent Nick Busuito and law clerk Etienne Leclerc participated on another team from Wayne State University Law School that performed well.
